The Little Black Jacket by Karl Lagerfeld

Last weekend I visited my best friend in London and I took the chance to pass by Saatchi & Saatchi Gallery. I was totally inspired by Jon Rafman's photos, who explores the virtual world of everyday images, through Google's Street view shots; and from the amazing exhibition called Little Black Jacket, CHANEL's photographic exhibition dedicated to Karl Lagerfeld's latest book.

We all know Mr Lagerfeld for being the creative genius behind CHANEL, but not everyone actually knows about his talent as a photographer, activity which he started professionally back in 1987, for which he was rewarded with the Lucky Strike Design Award in 1993. All models are wearing a black tricot woolen jacket - the iconic Chanel's little black jacket, indeed - interpreted by each subject in their very personal way. Here are a few of my favorite shots for the retrospective. My favorite one is Charlotte Casiraghi's: such a classical beauty which here somehow recalls a muse of a Renaissance portrait, but still keeping that gothic-rock allure, which only Karl can represent and communicate. Lo scorso fine settimana sono stata a Londra a trovare il mio migliore amico e ne ho approfittato per passare alla Galleria Saatchi & Saatchi. Mi hanno colpito particolarmente le foto di Jon Rafman, che esplora il mondo delle immagini quotidane virtuali raccolte da Google Street View e la retrospettiva di CHANEL intitolata The Little Black Jack, dedicata all'ultimo libro di Karl Lagerfeld.

Conosciamo tutti Mr Lagerfeld come genio creativo di CHANEL, appunto, ma pochi sanno che in realtà esordisce come fotografo, attività che iniziò già nel lontano 1987, per cui è stato anche premiato nel 1993 con il Lucky Strike Design Award. 

I modelli fotografati indossano tutti la giacca di lana tricot nera - la black jacket, appunto - come uno dei capi più rappresentativi del brand, interpretato liberamente da ciascuno dei protagonisti degli scatti. Vi pesento alcune delle sue foto, tra quelle che hanno catturato maggiormente la mia attenzione. La mia preferita in assoluto è quella che ritrae Charlotte Casiraghi: una bellezza classica che a me sembra richiamare un quadro rinascimentale, pur mantenendo sempre quell'allure rock-gotica che solo Karl sa impersonare e trasmettere.
